Tigers Rugby went to Boulder’s Pleasantview Park to play on the best pitch in Colorado. The Lions and Tigers squared off for three periods in a friendly match. Tigers trailed 5-7 after 45 minutes, but came around as the substitutions flowed to come out on top 29-7. Jimmy Higdon took two tries away, and Peter Loving, Warren Wood and AJ Shannon touched down one each. Alec Walters was 0-1 and Warren Wood went 2-3 on conversions to closeout the scoring.
A windy day befuddled our wings and fullbacks, but the speed was there for five running breakaways in the first period. Moving away from support, Tigers runners found themselves with no points for their effort.
Peter Loving took an 8-man take blind side for a demonstration of speed and commitment. Jimmy Higdon, Warren Wood, AJ Shannon punched in tries form the back line.
Tiger Rugby is grateful for the opportunity to play in boulder’s rugby stadium. A moment of silence was observed before the match for Matthew Hammerdorfer, the Ft. Collins Youth Rugby Captain, who died Saturday playing a match in Tinmath, Colorado. Matthew’s funeral is Friday. A card was passed around for players to sign for Matthew’s family.
