2011 Colorado Catholic HS Rugby Champions!

The Tigers Rugby Football Club conquered Regis Jesuit tonight to claim the Colorado Catholic HS Championship trophy.   In the eighth attempt Regis ran into an aggressive Tigers Rugby club with something to prove.  Regis offered no quit in the waning minutes, but Tigers held the line and took home the “Bishop’s Cup”.

Final score: Tigers Rugby 31 – Regis  Jesuit HS 24.

We’re very excited and thrilled to have fought through cramps and aches for the win.  Tries were scored early and often for the Tigers, including those by winger Jake Boselli , Holy Family; Peter Loving, Ralston Valley (8-man), Walker Prieb, Holy Family (flanker), Warren Wood, Pomona (center) and Nick Allen, Pomona (fly half).  3 of 5 conversions were successful for Alec Walters, Holy Family (9).

Jeff Eberle begins Denver Wolverines

The Denver Wolverines are an expansion team in the American National Rugby League (AMNRL), and the first team in Colorado to play the “League” code of the sport. Local support for the club has been surprisingly strong, which has enabled the club to set in place a plan of action for the inaugural 2011 season sooner than expected.   Jeff Eberle, a Tigers Rugby Alumni player is the founder of this club.

Informal once-a-week practices are slated to begin in late January. The initial focus will be on learning the fundamentals of the “League” code of rugby which is slightly different than the “Union” code of the game that is currently played by many in Denver.

Practices will increase in frequency and intensity as the AMNRL season (June-July-August) approaches.  Anyone 18 or older with an interest in rugby league is invited to join the team and come have some fun.
