Cherry Creek 36, Tigers 5; Pomona Wins Debut

Colorado Youth Rugby begins their 25th season and the game is booming in Arvada and Broomfield. Tigers Rugby Football Club joined Cherry Creek Rugby Club in singing the national anthem before three matches were played under the lights at Stutler Bowl at Cherry Creek High School on March 4th. The two boys teams, coached by ex-team mates made everyone proud. The sound of 80 high school rugby players with the 400 fans and parents in attendance was a celebration of tradition and the embodiment of sportsmanship.

Despite dropping an important interdivisional match, Tigers Rugby Football Club enjoyed the warm breezy evening. In the main event, the defending Colorado Youth Rugby North Division Champions fell to the Cherry Creek HS Rugby Club 36-5, to slip to a 1-1 record, 4-5 overall. Markus Harvey of Holy Family High School scored his 4th try of the season against Cherry Creek, and leads Tigers scorers. Another highlight of the evening was the final match on the card between the debuting Pomona Rugby Football Club and the U-19 Cherry Creek B-side, won by Pomona 27-0. In a Freshman-Sophomore (U-16) contest, Tigers Rugby put up members from Ralston Valley and Holy Family High Schools, who combined to overcome a potent Cherry Creek U-16 side 12-7.
