Tigers Rugby won a split decision in a scrimmage with Cherry Creek Rugby Club today. Both sides came out to work out the kinks in a generally well played series. Creek jumped out to a 5-0 lead when the opening drive was well managed with their rucking, and aggressive loose play by the Creek forwards. AJ Shannon finished the responding drive by the Tigers Rugby. Walker Prieb joined a creative back row and added another try (coversion by Walters) to give the Tigers a 12-5 first period advantage.
Tackling was a highlight for both backlines. The intensity was high in the early stanza, with commendably aggressive play at the breakdowns.

The B sides scrimmaged next with the Tigers taking a 5-0 lead when AJ Shannon touched it down in goal after a long Tigers possession. Matt Wright, Nick Carter, Michael Fagundo, Jamison Escobar, Robert Kaniecki, Devin Weeks and Jake Boselli got their feet wet with noticable contributions in the loose play and set pieces. In the third period, the A sides traded possessions frequently. Pressure applied by the Creek back line was effective, helping them top the Tigers 7-5 in the last 30 minute session.
Tigers gained dramatic advantage from backline pop kicks, and the kicking game showed promise in live play, clearing, and in placekicking. Giggles (Kaniecki) and Jake Boselli demonstrated their foot on conversions, and Alec Walters made strong efforts against a gusty wind.
The Tigers have a pre-game practice on Tuesday and the Colorado Catholic HS Rugby Championship Match on Wednesday night at Broomfield County Commons Park. Kickoff is at 5:00 pm.
