Watkins, Colorado
Tigers Rugby Football Club joined 300 players representing 12 other clubs for the Colorado Youth Rugby All Comers Rugby Festival at Ridgeview Academy in Watkins, Colorado. In the first day of scrimmaging for the Colorado high school boys rugby union, each player’s name is drawn from a bag, based on the player’s requested position. Colorado Youth Rugby coaches prepare their assigned teams in 45 minutes and play 4 twenty minute periods in 4 hours.
Over fifty U-16 boys (Freshmen and Sophomores) played on one pitch, while over 200 upperclassmen, comprising 7 randomly selected teams, played on two others. The annual CYR event was a tremendous opportunity to learn the game, meet other players, and put newly learned skills in action! Great thanks go to the students and staff at Ridgeview Academy, and the cooperative nature of the rugby community as a whole. Nearly 600 players, coaches and supporters witnessed Colorado Youth Rugby’s annual spring “rite of passage”.
Our next practices are Mondays and Wednesdays – 3:15 – 5:00 PM.
