Ft. Collins 29, Tigers Rugby 7

Tigers Rugby took on the Ft. Collins A side in Windsor, and borrowed 3-5 players throughout 3 periods. While on Spring Break, and missing 8 starters, Tigers Rugby struck first with a Jimmy Higdon try between the posts, converted by Alec Walters.  Tigers pressed the Fort Collins squad deep in their end often, but gave up five tries until Peter Loving scored to take the early lead against the Ft. Collins B side (a 5-5 tie) in the third period. The up-side is we played 80 minutes together, despite some unfortunate injuries and poor attendance.  Tigers Rugby’s record in currently 8-13-3.

With the over 100 rugby entusiast gathered at Eastman Park, in Windsor, were honored to be in the presence of Matthew Hammerdorfer’s parents.  Ft. Collins captain, Matthew recently died while playing a rugby match earlier this month. Tigers Rugby donated $100 from our general fund, to the Fort Collins general fund.  Ft. Collins treated our players, coaches and parents to submarine sandwiches and sodas. We invited them to play again in Broomfield next spring, where we will happily reciprocate with gracious hospitality.

Great effort despite horrible numbers, but as we have said before, it is always a highlight of a team’s season to beat the Tigers. Our goal is to get better every day in every way, prepare for the State qualifier with the best seed possible, and play on the last day.

We are now practicing Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays at Aspen Creek Park until we proudly host the #3 team in the nation, Colorado Springs on April 6th at Broomfield County Commons Park.
