If you want to play rugby with us, please call us at (303) 506-8110.  Tigers Rugby Football Club is a member of Colorado Youth Rugby (CYR – http://errfu.org/template.php?sid=89 ), and the Local Area Union (LAU), Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union (ERRFU – http://errfu.org).   Tigers Rugby Football Club draws its players from  Holy Family, Ralston Valley,  and Pomona High Schools.  We are the CYR North Divsion Champions for the second year in a row.

Dues for 2008 were $130, and the club was also supported by corporate and personal donations.  Equipment (jersey, shorts and socks only) is provided by the club.  Sometimes players wear shoulder or head padding.  Cleats for rugby require the front (toe) cleat be removed from American football cleats, or rugby cleats are available by mail order or at some Soccer Stop stores.

Tigers Rugby Football Club will meet at Paul Derda Rec Center in Broomfield on Saturday mornings starting in December.  We will condition and rotate through stations, where you will play ”touch footie” on the basketball court.  In other stations, you will learn the skills necessary to play the game.  We hope to discuss tactical play with video during our Saturday morning training as well.

How Much Are Dues?
Dues are $130 and cover: field rentals; registration for CYR, West RFU and USA Rugby; third party (event) insurance; 1 mouthpiece; shorts; socks and use of a game jerseys (jerseys are collected each game). Dues must be paid by February 1, 2008. Checks should be made out to “Tigers RFC, Inc.”. Credit Card payment is available. Call for information.

Dues will NOT include: admission to Paul Derda Rec Center, boots (cleats), additional mouthpieces, tournament costs, tour costs, practice clothes or equipment, or apparel (t-shirts, hoodies, etc).

Boots (cleats) cannot have a front (toe) cleat and are checked by the referee before every game. Rugby style cleats are available. Football cleats may have to be modified, and don’t typically make it through both seasons.

So, your son or daughter has decided to play Rugby? DON’T PANIC! Rugby is a wonderful game, with a rich tradition around the world. It is the contact game of choice for countries such as England, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Scotland and Wales. Throughout the world people play Rugby from grade school through adulthood. In fact, Rugby is truly a “Life Sport”. Players continue playing competitive rugby for years and years by joining local men’s or women’s clubs. Senior Clubs even have “Old Boys” teams composed of players over 35 years of age! This letter is intended to help you understand the game of Rugby a little better, and give you some information about those that play it.

Some other Rugby players you may have heard of: President Bill Clinton played at Oxford; Newt Gingerich’s sister, Candace, plays for the Washington Furies; Pope John Paul played for Poland; Darren Nelson, former Minnesota Viking, played at Stanford; Ted Kennedy played at Harvard; Boris Karloff founded the Southern California RFU; Jim Baker played at Princeton; actors David Niven and Richard Harris played Rugby both on and off the screen; Sean Connery played school-boy rugby! These and many, many others are part of the Rugby community!
