Rugby 7s is a variation of of the game that normally is played with 15 players on each team. Playing with 7 players at a time opens up the game considerably, and is an exciting addition to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad.
Tigers Rugby Football Club competed in the 43rd annual Dever 7s tournament’s U-19 and Men’ s Social brackets on July 24th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Amassing a 1-4 record on the day, Tiger Rugby won their last match and walked off happy. Players were grateful for local sponsors’ contribution of the admission fees, and reveled in another chance to meet up and play a little rugby on a wonderful summer Saturday.
The Denver 7s tournament was played for the 43rd year at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.The Tigers relented 180 points on the day to 20 scored, indicating the level of competition in thebrackets for this event was a bit over the Tigers’ heads, but, with the makeup of each team being a bunch of forwards, it was reminiscent of the “Props ‘R Us” entries of the late 1980s, when this tournament was played in Washington Park over the Memorial Day weekend.

Tigers Rugby met for their Annual General Meeting, Awards Banquet and the world famous Tigers Rugby Alumni Match. The U-19 Tigers Rugby wrapped up the wildly successful 2010 season, culminated by their second straight Quarterfinal appearance in the Rugby Colorado State Champonship Tournament for the U-19 side, and a Semifinal appearance by the U-19 B-side in the Bowl Bracket. The Alumni side finished it’s first season in Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union with 5-5 season, including a 36-12 victory this weekend in the 4th Annual Tigers Rugby Alumni match.
Over 70 players enjoyed rugby in 2010 under the coaching of Paul O’Brian, Nick Samaras, Mike O’Brian, and Brian Kelly. 35 players were introduced to the game of rugby by Tigers Rugby Football Club this year, including 23 new U-19 players.
